Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Soon to win his second-consecutive Stanley Cup championship with the Montreal Canadiens in the spring of 1931, legendary superstar Howie Morenz was presented before the start of the 1930-31 NHL season with this exquisitely ornate silver plate tray by "a few of his Stratford friends". At approx 16" x 25 1/2", the well detailed and chased tray features raised floral designs with "Presented to Howie Morenz" and the date of "Nov 11, 1930" engraved to the center. Serving as an absolutely ideal display piece with it's distinguished aesthetics and elaborate design, the reverse of the tray has "Sheffield Reproduction" (for pattern and model) stamped along with "SP" (silver-plated). The tray shows minor wear including scratches, and a bit of oxidation in areas, but displays magnificently overall. An Auction LOA signed by Howie Morenz Jr that mentions the tray was in his family for over 70 years will accompany.
