Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club’s comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The catalyst that helped expand hockey into the US market, Howie Morenz was instrumental in the creation of the Boston Bruins and New York Americans, with both Bruins and Amerks owners Charles Adams and Tex Richard influenced after seeing the superstar play. Morenz would enjoy 14 seasons of NHL action which included winning a trio of Hart Memorial trophies and Stanley Cup championships before sadly succumbing to an injury, in 1937. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens and most likely displayed originally at the Montreal Forum and possibly later at the Bell Centre, we have a Hall of Fame honoured member framed photo of the legendary superstar. At 7” x 10” (exposed), the original Rice image is a modern print, with Morenz wonderfully pictured in his Habs finery, with a gold-coloured name plaque listing his induction year (1945) beneath. Double-matted and framed to 16” x 16”, there is some light wear to the frame to note. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
