Requiring a two million-dollar payment to the NHL to secure the franchise, the Los Angeles Kings joined the league as part of the 1967 expansion, with the colours purple and gold chosen as they were traditionally associated with royalty. offered here is this Kings jersey worn by Hughes during the club's inaugural NHL season of 1967-68 worn by a trio of players including Jacques Lemieux (19 games - October 14th to November 19th), Brent Hughes (13 games - November 22nd to December 19th - started wearing a different number on January 11th) and Jim Murray (30 games - December 21st to March 5th). Partially detached and heavily faded Goodman & Sons tagging is affixed inside the rear hem that displays a size “46” size designation along with an additional washing instructions label while the original Kings’ crown team crest that features embroidered detailing sits elegantly centered over the front. Having been accented over the sleeves and verso with the number "4" in single layer purple tackle twill numerals, the distinct overlapping v-neck collar is the key identifier that dates this jersey to the Kings' first season of play. Sporting excellent game-use, large fabric runs/unrepaired holes are observed over the front, reverse and both sleeves while stick marks are present behind the left shoulder, to the left of the "4" on the left sleeve and over the right shoulder both to the front and reverse sides. Also showing board burns over both sleeves, the cuffs of both also show staining as well as heavy pilling. Finally, a good sized team repair is found on the reverse with the "4" on the back torn/missing material in the middle as well. Sans a fight strap on the interior, fraying and loose threads are seen near the elbows. ADDENDUM - Further research shows that the jersey was worn by Jacques Lemieux, Brent Hughes and Jim Murray and not Howie Hughes as previously stated
