Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Finishing first during the 1943-44 NHL regular season and advancing to the Stanley Cup finals after taking out traditional rival the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Montreal Canadiens would battle Chicago for Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy. The Habs would take the first three games, and after trailing the Black Hawks 4-1 during Game 4, the Punch Line took charge, with Lach scoring once and the Rocket twice to tie the matter before Toe Blake sealed the deal with the game-winner and Stanley Cup-clincher, scored at 9:12 of overtime. Blake would assist on each of the four Habs goals for a five-point night. Originally sold in the Toe Blake Auction in 1997 and according to information received at the time from the family, this is the very puck Blake plotted to win the 1944 Stanley Cup, and it has been multi-signed! Mounted to a small 6” x 2” x 1” wooden base, the Spalding puck has been painted white (both logos are still visible), with legible signatures visible from Bill Durnan (rookie season) Butch Bouchard, Elmer Lack, Ray Getliffe, Gerry Hefferman, Leo Lamoureux (very pale), Murph Chamberlain and Mike McMahon. An LOA from the original sale will accompany.
The signatures show wear from being handled, with the white paint showing crazing, now toned to a light yellow. The puck is also able to swivel on its base.
