Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Offered here, is this pair of photo-matched gloves worn by "Mr. Hockey" during a charity match at the "Ernie Gare Scholarship Celebration Mid-summer Hockey Classic" in Nelson, British Columbia on July 28th, 1990. The star of the show and the man over 1200 people came out to see on a hot Canadian Summer day take the ice at Nelson's Civic Arena, the gloves, a pair of GX7000 model gauntlets made by Easton in the Hartford Whalers green, blue and white colourway, Easton brand identifiers are found over the cuff, wrist and thumbs of each glove. With velcro fit straps on the underside of each wrist to provide a desired fit for the wearer, Howe himself has penned "G. Howe" to the inside of each glove under the model number in blue marker ink that has faded slightly over time. Exhibiting good wear with rubbing to both of the leather palms, which is heaviest on the left, both palms remain void of any holes while the outside portion of both mitts show wear via numerous marks and abrasions from both wear and age. Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, a photo taken of Howe with other participants from the contest is matched to the wear at the top of the "A" in "Easton" over the wrist of the left glove. Accompanied by a wooden stand for displaying the gloves that remains in excellent condition, a metal plaque reading "Gordie Howe - Charity Game - Civic Arena - Nelson, BC - July 28, 1990" is affixed to the front of it.
