Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
On November 27, 1965, Detroit Red Wings superstar Gordie Howe found the twine once again, scoring his 600th regular season goal in a game against the Canadiens, a gentle flip shot past Habs keeper Gump Worsley at the Montreal Forum. He was the first NHL player to score 600 times in his career. Howe had previously broken the record of 544 goals set by the legendary Canadien Maurice "Rocket" Richard in November 1963. The puck is an official Detroit Red Wings 1958-62 Art Ross gamer with the team logo on one side and the orange octagonal Art Ross Tyer National Hockey League designation on the opposite side. Gold print arching across the top reads "Gordie Howe Goal No. 600". Pencil marks appear on both the Red Wings and Art Ross rubberized logos, with some minor residue also present encompassing both logos. These seldom-seen souvenirs were sold to lucky fans who attended games at the Olympia in Detroit back in the 1960s.
