Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
A product of Michigan Tech, guarding the Huskies crease for three seasons, goaltender Gord McRae saw action in the ECHL and AHL before parts of five seasons with Toronto. From his rookie campaign where he competed in 11 regular-season games, we offer a Leafs jersey worn by the Sherbrooke native in 1972-73. Void of any collar labeling, a Rawlings tag is affixed to the inside hem, and it denotes “50” sizing. Styled with the classic Leafs team crest with “Toronto Maple Leafs” fully-embroidered, “31” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill, with no name over the upper reverse as the jersey predates the use of nameplates (McRae only wore #31 during his rookie season). The heavy durene sweater shows light use with a few minor stains to the front and right sleeve. The image posted on the listing is from the last game of the regular season played at MSG vs the Bruins on March 31, 1973 (won by Leafs 7-3 - Leafs played their last game of season on the road), the image shows the correct placement of the numbers on the back of the jersey.
