Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/1/2022
Chosen in both the NHL (Vancouver) and WHA (Houston) drafts of 1977, goaltender Glen Hanlon backstopped four different NHL clubs throughout his career, and later coached. Hanlon is also historically noteworthy as the netminder that gave up Wayne Gretzky’s first NHL goal. From his fourth of five seasons in Motor City, we have a Red Wings jersey worn by Hanlon in 1989-90. Eastside and Maska labeling is affixed to the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 54. Styled with the classic winged-wheel Red Wings team crest, “1” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill, with the jersey sporting customizations including material added at the base of each side to widen the circumference, and custom-shortened cut sleeves (no cuffs). The fight strap has also been cut away and removed. Great game-use is visible, with wear to the material throughout, with pilling to the collar and bottom hem, with a large zig-zagged team repair over the reverse.
