Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

A veteran of twelve (12) seasons in the National Hockey League, spending time with Vancouver, New York, Philadelphia and Montreal, Gino Odjick would play the first eight (8) years of his career on Canada's west coast with Vancouver, becoming one of the Canucks’ most popular players during that time, with fans seeing the "Algonquin Assassin" rack up 2127 of his 2567 career penalty minutes during that time. Tragically passing away far too young in January of 2023 at only 52 years old, offered here is this Canucks jersey worn by Odjick during his rookie season of 1990-91. Made by CCM offering with washed out Maska Ultrafil and size "56" tags affixed to the inner collar, the reverse hem has had both the NHL shield and CCM logos embroidered into it. Decorated over the chest with a Cancuks "flying skate" team crest that features embroidered details throughout, the NHL's 75th anniversary patch has been added over the right breast by the team which is evident by the stitching pattern used. Of note, it is unknown if the jersey was patched as a back-up for the year or also saw use in 1991-92 at some point though videos from the 1991-92 season show Gino wearing jerseys with the sleeve numbers in a different position, higher up on the sleeve than those on jerseys worn the year prior in 1990-91, such as seen here on this offered example. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Odjick's number "29" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals, "Odjick" is spelt out in single layer black twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the back. Displaying game-wear in the form of stick marks over both sleeves with additional dark marks over the front at both sides of the collar and lower front albeit in a lighter form, fraying is seen throughout the team crest while darkening is observed at the end of both sleeves along with good pilling at the cuffs and over the reverse neckline. Also displaying a red board paint transfer mark near the left elbow as well as over the nameplate on the reverse, heavy pilling is found under the fight strap on the interior and at the elbows and armpits with more on the inside of the front while the fight strap itself sports heavy salting and rusting. Found with the correct sizing, tagging and stitching as other Odjick examples of the era, with the interior pilling matches other examples as well, the jersey comes accompanied by a letter of provenance from its original owner.
