A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Big, Bad Bruins of the early-1970s, HOF goalie Gerry Cheevers returned to Boston for a second stint after becoming one of the first NHL stars to jump to the rebel WHA. From the era of his return to the Bruins from the Cleveland Crusaders, we have a stick used by the 1985 HOF inductee circa 1975-77, and it originates from the personal collection of Tom Johnson. A Northland Registered Pattern model with “Cheevers” stamped to the upper shaft along with his “30” (in red), a production code of “0605” is stamped to both sides of the shaft. Sporting the original white-over-black tape on the knob, the black blade and paddle tape is intact (a few strands are possibly missing at the toe). The stick shows heavier game-use with wear to the blade tape including splits and tears to the backside from hitting the skate blade tips of Cheevers. There is also at least one large crack beneath the blade tape and additional small cracks at the toe, with some marks and wear to the paddle and shaft including a few small areas of red paint transfer. An LOA from the Johnson Family will accompany.
