Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Transitioning to the Montreal Canadiens in 1970-71 after numerous seasons with both Toronto and Detroit, Frank Mahovlich would play in each and every NHL All-Star contest during his four seasons with the Habs, with Stanley Cup championships also won, in 1971 and 1973. This stick was used by the Big M during his time in Montreal in the early-1970s. A Victoriaville Pro Special Model with each side of the shaft shaved to remove the Victoriaville identifiers, “F Mahovlich” and “27” are stamped over the upper shaft, with the striping accent in Habs colours intact over the upper shaft (the bottom example is missing). The original black tape is in place over the blade with white over the handle, with “Frank Mahovlich 73” handwritten in ballpoint over each side of the shaft by an unknown hand, with “1972” also written midway down the shaft.
Remaining completely solid and exhibiting light to moderate use, there is some wear to the underside of the blade, with a few of the tape strands torn. There is also some white residue/paint over small areas of the shaft.
