Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2023
Contributing to the war effort, Toronto Maple Leaf players took part in Kiwanis benefit games beginning in the late-1930s at the onset of World War II, continuing until it's conclusion in the mid-1940s. We here at Classic Auctions have sold a number of Kiwanis jerseys used during the era, including from Red Horner, Sweeney Schriner and Don Metz, and we are pleased to offer the Kiwanis jersey worn by Leafs star Frank Finnigan. The solid white wool with blue striping bands sports a "Hawco" (Harold A Wilson Sporting Goods Toronto) label to the inside seam, and measures out to roughly a size 40. Featuring a faded Kiwanis felt team crest, "12" in thick royal blue felt has been sewn to the verso. The sweater survives in gorgeous condition, with just a few small holes to the front and reverse. Worn by two-time Stanley Cup champion "The Shawville Express", the prized garment originates from Frank Finnigan's personal collection and will be accompanied by an LOA from Classic Auctions.
