Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The final swan song in a career that spanned two decades and witnessed 18 different worn jerseys, Ernie Wakely played his final season of pro hockey in 1978-79 for the WHA’s Birmingham Bulls – a club also in their final hurrah that season. We have a Bulls jersey that was donned by the notable netminder that very season. An “XL” Russell Athletics label graces the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size “52”. Styled with a rubberized polychromatic team crest and sleeve/waist striping bands, the red drop-shadow sleeve and verso numbers with white trim are also rubberized, with “Wakely” across the mesh nameplate in single white twill. With just light wear exhibited with a few random marks present, the vintage jersey remains in wonderful condition. Wakely saw action in 37 games his final season.
