Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Forever changing how the game is played, Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers rewrote the records books during the 1980s, averaging over 420 goals a season from 1982 to 1985. While no previous team had eclipsed the 400 goal plateau, Wayne himself would register over 200 points in four different seasons. Hailing from the circa mid-1980s, this important historical collection of 35mm Edmonton Oilers negatives totals approx 393, with roughly 200 that include Gretzky. Highlights include Wayne joking around, wearing a blocker and glove in practice, images of Wayne with a new Chrysler, a Gretzky billboard, Wayne playing with kids, as well as the superstar receiving trophies, including the Emery Edge Award. There are also images of Wayne with CFL commissioner Doug Mitchell as well as additional images with Mario Lemieux, and over 100 images from the 1987 Stanley Cup celebrations. The lot also contains five 2” x 2 ½” black and white negatives of Wayne in street clothes. The negatives all appear to be in excellent condition.
