Some alluring cards and postcards highlight this all-Oilers offering, with our consignor paying close attention to centering and condition while assembling the booty. Most notable among standard O-Pee-Chee cards, all of them NM or better, are rookie cards of Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson and Grant Fuhr, along with a second-year Wayne Gretzky. The latter and the Messier RC feature perfect centering and look to make it to NM-MT. There are also two Gretzky All-Star cards from the same '80-81 issue, four regular Gretzky issues from the '80s, (to go along with eight Wayne leader/action/record breaker cards) and a NM Oilers team checklist from '79-80 - nice. A J.D. McCarthy postcard of Gretzky is not an item that comes along frequently, with the example here however exhibiting corner wear, a couple of light bends and surface indentations from writing, while Gretz and Messier highlight two dozen nice crease-free Oilers postcards from '79-80, with just intermittent touched/white corners observed. Regional "Red Rooster" issues/sets are from '84-85 (30 cards in six 5-card panels, with Gretzky appearing four times in one "strip", with different messages beneath Wayne's image and the Sather version with facsimile autograph) and '85-86 (30 cards including three different of Gretzky) and everything in tiptop condition. Meanwhile, publications and pictures complete the stash, with a nice shot of Gretzky on the cover of an EX condition 1985 Campbell Conference finals program versus Chicago. A program from Wayne's fourth NHL game, played October 19th, 1979 is G-VG, with writing on the lineup page and the Nordiques the visitors in Edmonton. The Oilers '84-85 and '87-88 Stanley Cup champion teams appear in 8-1/2" by 11" pictures, with individual shots of Gretzky (2), Messier, Coffey and Fuhr produced on paper stock. What a time in Edmonton hockey history! .....oh, we almost forgot, thrown onto the pile is a stack of '81-82 Topps hockey cards (132), with cards 67 to 132 being the "East" variety. We spot only a few dinged corners, with most NM-MT.
