Scoring over 400 goals throughout the season while losing only 20 matches, the Edmonton Oilers again finished first in the Smythe Division at the conclusion of the 1984-85 NHL season, and defeated the Flyers in five to claim the franchise’s second-consecutive championship. This large 35mm Oilers colour negative collection totals approx 805, and features the celebrations in Edmonton after the Oilers were crowned Stanley Cup victors. There are approx 485 negatives of the celebrations at Commonwealth Stadium, occurring on June 2, 1985, and approx 203 images from the Oilers Stanley Cup parade. Within the collection, there are images of Gretzky in downtown traffic lifting the Cup for all to see in a Jeep, Wayne in a white suit hoisting and kissing the Stanley Cup, Gretzky signing autographs for fans, and Wayne posing with the Cup and police officers. There are also images of Kevin Lowe and Paul Coffey with Lord Stanley’s grail, Glenn Anderson with the Cup at the Cross Cancer Institute, the Oilers 1983-84 and 1984-85 banners, Gretzky golfing, and over 50 images taken during the official 1984-85 Oilers team photo. The majority of the negatives show light handling, with the group still housed in the original envelopes.
