Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

This 1983-84 Edmonton Oilers personal Stanley Cup trophy represents the dynasty’s first of five championships in a span of seven seasons. Led by Wayne Gretzky and Conn Smythe winner Mark Messier, the Oilers ended the Islanders dynasty to reach the NHL summit. This unawarded example, produced by Boffey, is similar to the ones awarded to each member of the Oilers by the NHL in a tradition dating back to 1958. Gretzky heads up the three columns of player names engraved on the barrel that include Messier, Coffey, Fuhr, Kurri and Anderson. GM and coach Glen Sather makes it a total of seven HOFers on the barrel. This remarkable and historic first Oilers Stanley Cup with a rich felt bottom that covers its black wood base is wonderfully preserved.
