Advancing to the 1983 Stanley Cup finals after thwarting Winnipeg, Calgary and Chicago, the Edmonton Oilers led by the iconic Wayne Gretzky would face the current-champion New York Islanders. The boys from Long Island proved too much for the younger Oilers, taking the series four-straight. This important collection of 35mm colour and b&w Edmonton Oilers negatives from the 1982-83 Stanley Cup finals vs the New York Islanders totals approx 764, with roughly 102 that feature Wayne Gretzky. The breakdown includes approx 707 colour negatives and 57 b&w negatives, with numerous images of stars Kurri, Messier, Coffey, Bossy, Smith and many others. Additional highlights include 13 images of the Islanders arriving in Edmonton for the first game of the finals, Gretzky being interviewed after losing Game 3, and a few images of signage around Edmonton supporting the Oilers. These historic images represent both Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers’ first Stanley Cup finals.
The majority of the negatives remain in excellent condition with no issues, with the contents for each particular game remaining in its own original labeled envelope.
