Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016

Outrageous stories highlighting Eddie Shore’s defensive and physical prowess are legion, including the incident as a rookie when teammate and psychopath Billy Coutu nearly severed the 23 year old’s ear completely off. Adding to his stature as the only defenceman in history to be awarded the Hart Trophy a remarkable 4 times, we are elated to be able to offer the only Eddie Shore game-used stick we’ve ever handled, and it’s been signed by the legend. A preferred Jimmy McNiece model, “Super Special Hand Made” appears on both sides of the shaft, with Shore’s iconic “2” handwritten in pencil on the upper shaft on all four sides. The original tape is in place on the blade and knob, with remnants of the blue striping accent present. The signature from Shore appears on the upper shaft, and it displays remarkably.
We should note that this stick was originally gifted to our consignor by the Adams family after he did some home renovations at their residence. Game-wear on the crucial artifact is abundant, which is expected considering the frugality of depression-era hockey. A ton of puck and stick marks litter the lower shaft, with additional wear to the blade that includes some cracking along the toe section. There is also some very light cracking on the lower shaft just above the heel, but these imperfections do little to affect the integrity of the stick, as it remains completely solid. Game-used NHL items from the 1930's are extremely rare, while examples originating from prominent HOFers are practically non-existent. With a reverence for hockey’s rich history, we are confident in calling this Eddie Shore game-used stick one of the most important items we’ve handled from the Hall of Fame Icon. This stick would be the center piece to even the most advanced game-used, Boston Bruins or Eddie Shore collection.
