Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Led by successful coach Terry Simpson, the Prince Albert Raiders heavily defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Q to capture their first Memorial Cup championship in 1985. Hailing from the collection of longtime CHL and WHL president Ed Chynoweth and consigned by his direct family, we have a 1985 Prince Albert Raiders Memorial Cup champions 10K gold ring that was presented to the important hockey administrator. Size 8 with a weight of 24.7 grams, a large cubic zirconia sits centralized atop a green stone, with “Memorial Cup” above and “Champions” below. “1985” along with “Prince Albert” appear on the left shank, with a Raiders logo and “Chynoweth” on the right. The inner band is stamped “10K”. Comes with an LOA from the family.
A number of scratches are present along the band, with additional wear to edges throughout. Chynoweth served as the president of the WHL from 1972-95 and president of the CHL from 1975-95. Passing from cancer in 2008, the WHL renamed its championship trophy the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his honour. Chynoweth was posthumously elected to the HOF as a builder late in 2008.
