Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
From Ed Belfour’s only season in The Sunshine State, we have his iconic custom-crafted game-worn Warwick goalie mask that’s been photo-matched. The interior padding is present including added velcro for cloth forehead accessory, and dual-colour strapping to coincide with the placement of the custom graphics. The manufacturer’s sticker remains affixed on the inside chin section, and Ed’s Trademark majestic eagles grace each side, with his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design over the chin. The back head-piece has additional custom graphics showcasing a 1941 Willys for Ed’s racing company, named after his Carman Manitoba hometown. There is some chipping and flaking to the paint, but just on the mask’s edges, which in no way infringes on the central graphics or display quality. An LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany this lot.
As previously mentioned, this mask has been photo-matched. 10 different Getty images show matches, including Oct.28th image to the paint pattern on the inside edge, Nov. 20th image to tiny chip on chin, Dec. 14th image to tiny chip on chin, Jan. 7th image to chip on back edge of the left ear side, Jan. 20th image to tiny chip on chin and paint/mark just above the middle of the top of the facemask, Feb. 14th image to a tiny chip on the chin and to paint chipping on the back edge of the right ear side, Feb. 27th image to a tiny chip on the chin, March 6th and 8th images to chipping of the paint on the back edge by the left side ear, March 20th image to paint chipping on the back edge of the right side ear. The cage on the mask appears to be original, as the black mark on the lower middle bar seems to be showing on Getty image 72292095, as well as the black mark on the vertical bar on the right side showing on Getty image 73646421. The mask will also be accompanied by its original custom carrying case, made by Warwick goalie masks in Port Huron Michigan.
