Well remembered for Brett Hull’s controversial Cup-winning goal in triple overtime of game 6, the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals proved to be no fluke for the powerful Dallas Stars, with a line-up full of seasoned veteran talent including Hull, Modano, Nieuwendyk, Verbeek, Carbonneau, Keane and Ed Belfour. The Stars would show their consistency by appearing in the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals as well. This Dallas Stars jersey was worn by Ed Belfour in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, and it’s been photo-matched. CCM “Goalie Style” tagging remains affixed to the collar, with additional embroidered CCM and NHL patches on the back bottom hem. Finished in multi-colour tackle twill including numbers and name-on-nameplate, the garment also features matching Texas crests over each shoulder, with the all-important Stanley Cup patch residing over the right breast. Visible game-wear on the jersey is limited to a large vertical mark on the lower front just above the hem, and a pair of dark marks on the numbers of the right sleeve. There is also a 1 ½” team repair on the lower right sleeve. As mentioned, this important jersey has been photo-matched. Getty image #72319612 from Game 3 of Stanley Cup Finals on June 12th 1999 has been matched to the black marks in the "2" and "0" of "20" on the right sleeve. An LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany this world-class Stanley Cup Finals jersey.
We should also emphasize that this jersey was worn in the aforementioned Game 3 as per the photo-match, and the possibility exists that it could have also been worn in Game 4 on June 15th. We also know that the jersey was not worn in the Cup-clinching Game 6, as that jersey had a different nameplate affixed. It’s not often that jersey’s worn in the Stanley Cup Finals by prominent Hall of Famers surface, so this amazing Stars sweater worn by one of the greatest modern goaltenders in Ed Belfour, should garner serious attention and bidding.
