Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Embarking on his rookie campaign with the Chicago Black Hawks as a 25-year-old in 1990-91, goaltender Ed Belfour would win 43 of his 74 starts, while also earning the Vezina, William Jennings and Calder Memorial Trophies to register one of the greatest premier seasons in history. From the genesis of his Hall of Fame career, we have a pair of photo-matched goal pads worn by the superstar during his rookie season, in 1990-91. Brian’s Air Pac models in Hawks’ white and black, each 30” pad sports screened and sewn identifiers, with “Custom Made For Ed Belfour” on an affixed leather patch on the left pad. A strap on the right pad only extends from one side, with the back section of each pad refurbished, with material added. We should also note that the bottom black strap on the right pad doesn’t match the other straps and was most likely changed. A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany these historic goal pads.
Showing very heavy game use, there is considerable wear and rubbing to the leather throughout, with each pad completely covered with puck marks. There is also an added leather section on the left pad, with the leather loops placed just above each skate most likely changed on the left pad. Some staining is visible on the left pad, near a small area of insect holes. A pair of included numeric images has been matched to numerous marks on the left pad, while Getty Image #1184876161 has been matched to specific marks on the right pad.
