Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
On his way to winning the Calder Trophy with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1989-90, Hall of Fame goalie Ed Belfour cut his teeth with the Saginaw Hawks of the old International Hockey League. Belfour’s 1987-89 IHL Saginaw Hawks game-worn road jersey has a Maska Ultrafil flag tag in the neck with no size indicated. This Belfour minor league gamer appears to have been a size 54 originally, though it measures out to a size 56 as a result of custom-widening to the sides and sleeves. There is a vintage Belfour nameplate and evidence of a former nameplate and no signs of a change to the numbers or the team crest, which features chain-stitch embroidering as do the “S” for Saginaw shoulder patches. Comes with an LOA.
Game wear shows in black marks on sleeves and on the numbers on the back, and red paint transfer on the lower back and on the white twill of the “3” on the white-on-black double twill No. 31 sewn on the back.
Goalie Ray Leblanc is also listed as wearing #30 & #31 for Saginaw in 1988-89.
Each side of the jersey has a 3 1/2"-wide fabric panel sewn into each side of the side seam and along the seam on the bottom of each sleeve, from the bottom of the hem and up under the arm and down to the tip of each wrist at the cuff.
