The recipient of the Eddie Powers Trophy as the OHL’s leading scorer in 1982-83, Doug Gilmour would score 177 points including 70 goals for Cornwall, enough to also earn the Red Tilson Trophy as league MVP as voted by OHL writers and broadcasters. We have a pair of awards that were presented to Gilmour for the 1982-83 season, including his Red Tilson Trophy plaque. The first is a Cornwall Lions Club trophy (13”) with figural wood design and dual-mounted individuals with raised torches, with a plaque affixed stating the particulars including “Outstanding Junior Athlete of the Year” and “1983 Doug Gilmour”. The Red Tilson plaque is 9” x 12” and solid wood with beveled edges, with a metal plate affixed with engraved text including “Presented to Doug Gilmour” and “Most Valuable Player”, with the date incorrectly listed as “1983-84”, instead of the correct “1982-83”. A framed picture of Gilmour in his Cornwall jersey will accompany, along with his signed LOA.
The Lions Club trophy has a few scratches and blemishes to both the wooden base and affixed plaque, with the upper wooden section and attached Lion Club medallion both able to move. The Red Tilson plaque has numerous scratches over the affixed metal plate, with light wear to the wooden base. There are also screw holes at each corner from a former mounting. The photo is 8” x 10”, possibly pulled from a magazine or program of some kind, framed to just under 10” x 12”, with a few scratches noticeable over the surface.
