Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Fresh off five Vezina Trophy wins in the last six seasons played, 1999-00 would be Dominik Hasek’s eighth season in Buffalo, playing just one more in The Nickel City before moving on to the Red Wings. These pads were worn by The Dominator that very season, and they’ve been photo-matched. Louisville TPS “Xhale” models in Sabres colours, each pad has its identifiers stenciled-on, with “Hasek” embroidered onto each side along with “Handcrafted in Canada”. Hasek is first pictured wearing this style of pad in 1999-00, and they’ve been photo-matched to embroidered serial numbers that are present on the outer side of each pad, along with marks on/around the numbers.
Game-wear on the pads consists of numerous puck marks on each, especially on the lower sections, along with wear to the identifiers and leather itself. The interiors also show light staining from use. We should also note that the TPS logos on the outside of the pads were removed at some point, and that a 2000-01 UD Pros and Prospects Hasek hockey card shows this model of pads with the TPS logos removed from the outside sections. Getty image #72324188 from Oct 20th 1999 has been matched to the identical serial number on the right leg pad, and to the black mark at the top of the "96" in the serial number, while Getty image #459196142 from Sept 1999 has been matched to the same serial number on the left leg pad, and to the small black mark between "serial" and "#" (the lower of the two marks). A number of marks have also been matched to Hasek’s 2000-01 UD Heroes Timeless Moments hockey card.
