Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

The 63rd overall selection at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, netminder Dominic Roussel spent parts of five seasons in the City of Brotherly Love along with a seven-game stint with Winnipeg before starring with the Canadian National Team in 1997-98, where the offered mask was first worn. After 41 games with the national team and an additional pair of contests with Starbulls Rosenheim in the DEL, Roussel’s rights were traded to Nashville – where the mask was worn at training camp and has been has been photo-matched – before 18 games with Anaheim during the 1998-99 NHL season. An Itech model produced by Jerry Wright with his sticker affixed to the interior, the mask includes intact cage, back plate, strapping and interior padding. Featuring a patriotic design by noted design artist Frank Cipra with Hockey Canada logos over the chin, forehead and sides, Cipra has signed the interior with “97”, with the mask exhibiting great game-use, ideal for display, with wear throughout including chipping and surface abrasions.
As mentioned, the mask has been photo-matched, with the Getty Image (53126538) dated to Oct 18, 1998 and showing Roussel with the Nashville Predators. Being that Roussel never played a game for Nashville, the image is most likely from training camp preceding the regular season and was mis-dated. The image has been matched to the exact custom graphics throughout, to the chipping visible along the bottom edge of the left side of the chin section, to the exact shape, placement and altering colour of the strap over the upper left side, and to the chipping visible within the hockey stick on the left side.
