A product of the OMJHL's London Knights who would go undrafted by NHL squads, Dino Ciccarelli would sign with the Minnesota North Stars in September of 1979 and go on to a National Hockey League career that would span a total of nineteen (19) seasons and see him play 1232 games with the likes of Minnesota, Washington, Detroit, Tampa Bay and Florida. Able to boast about having exactly 1200 career points under his belt including 608 goals, Ciccarelli would join the exclusive 500 goal club of the National Hockey League on January 8th, 1994. Putting him in the company of only eighteen (18) other NHLers at that point in time, the historic marker would come at the 4:20 mark of the 3rd period in Detroit's 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Lifting a pass taken from Vyacheslav Kozlov over Kings goalie Kelly Hrudey from about five (5) feet out from the blue paint, the goal put Ciccarelli in a tie at the time with Lanny McDonald for 18th on the all-time goal scoring list. Offered here, we proudly present this stick and puck used by Ciccarelli to register his 500th career NHL goal as well as framed photo display that features a sequence of pictures pertaining to the goal.
Starting with the stick, an Easton made 7000 Super Light model, the stick retains its original white cloth tape job over the handle/knob while a wooden extension has been added to the top of the shaft and heavily shaved down. Having had a "500" notation penned over the top of the butt end in black marker ink and displaying "Ciccarelli" stamped over the stem of the inserted Easton wooden blade, "#500" is also penned on the forehand side of the blade tape near the toe, once again in matching black marker ink as well. Displaying good game-use, some light marks and abrasions are present throughout the length of the shaft while some soiling is observed over the handle tape from Ciccarelli's gloves. For the blade tape, black puck marks are found over both sides as well as a small tear on the backhand while light wear is present along the bottom edge of the blade as well. Having been photo-matched to images from the aforementioned framed display, the stick is matched with the picture in the upper right corner of the display to the missing tape on the handle as well as to the proper placement of the tape on the bottom of the handle just over the "O" of Easton.
For the puck an InGlasCo made offering that is correct to what the Kings were using during the 1993-94 season, a Kings "chevy" logo is observed over one side while Gary Bettman's facsimile signature and the league's shield logo along with an "official game puck" designation are present over the other. Seen in the bottom right photo of the previously referenced photo display holding his 500th goal biscuit, a piece of tape with "500" penned across it is seen covering the one face of the disk, with this having been removed at some point though the photo does also show that the same area of "puck" on the upper right area of the reverse face shows some scratches/paint loss on the logo which is showing on the photo same for a whiteish mark on the lower middle edge back of the puck though none are high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match. Additionally, on the side with the Kings logo there is a light and partially round area with a clear residue (probably silicone) which was originally used to affix the puck in a frame/display.
For the frame itself, featuring a quintet of photos from the historic night pertaining to the goal that are all displayed under black and white double mattes, the simple black frame measures out to approximately 26" x 22 1/2" and shows light wear to the corners and edges while two holes have been drilled into each side for the purpose of mounting. Lastly, other items that came from the original display that are include are those of a display plaque listing information about the goal, an 8" x 10" photo of Ciccarelli and a small group of hockey cards picturing him as well.
Originally all housed in a display together as a group that was on display at "Ciccarelli's Premier Sports Club and Eatery" restaurant as well as the other frame with four (4) photos from the goal, the items are all from the personal collection of Dino Ciccarelli and will be accompanied by his singed LOA.
