Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Concluding the 1996-97 NHL season with 94 points and finishing second in the Central Division, The Detroit Red Wings would then slip past St Louis, Anaheim and Colorado before defeating Philadelphia to claim their first Stanley Cup championship of the modern era – and eighth in franchise history. We have a gorgeous Stanley Cup trophy, with this unawarded example, produced by Boffey, similar to the examples awarded to each member of the Red Wings by the NHL in a tradition dating back to 1958. Standing just over a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with dark brown felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved beneath Detroit’s executives, with “Detroit Red Wings” and “1996-97” engraved above. In beautiful condition with surface wear/loss in spots including near the wooden base, on the bowl’s outer rim and within/near the engraved grooves, there are also a few scratches visible, and wear to the surface beneath the bowl.
