Finishing in fourth place during the regular season with a record of 31–27–12 and setting up a meeting with the Chicago Black Hawks in the first round of the 1966 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Detroit Red Wings would knock off the Windy City club before falling in six (6) games to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals. Offered here, we present this stick signed by eighteen (18) members of the 1965-66 Detroit Red Wings. A Northland Custom Pro model twig that was issued to Bill Gadsby, the 1970 HHOF inductee's name is stamped over the shaft but was likely never used by him as the number "16" of Bob Wall is penned over the upper portion of the stick and was likely wielded by him during his couple of call-ups with the club that season. Additionally, the lumber also features a tape job that differs from other Gadsby examples that have come to market. Retaining its original tape job of black over both the knob and blade plus sporting Olympic Sporting Goods and Northland Skis stamps over both sides of the stick upper shaft, heavy game-wear is exhibited via dark black marks throughout the entirety of the shaft, heaviest near the bottom portion and over the heel, while red paint transfer marks are seen in spots as well. Also showing a large crack in the lower portion of the shaft on the top edge with another in the toe, the stick has been signed by eighteen (18) members of that year's Red Wings squad including Howe, Delvecchio, Mahovolich, Gadsby, McCord, Marshall, Bergman, MacGregor, Prentice, Bassan, Boivin, Mitchell, McDonald, Fontayne, Wall, Watson, Hampson and head trainer, Lefty Wilson. All the signatures have been signed on the forehand side in black marker ink and display well with all remaining strong and legible.
