Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

With a less-than-stellar finish during the regular season, the Detroit Red Wings managed to advance to the Stanley Cup finals for a second-straight year in 1941-42, losing a close-fought, low-scoring, seven game final. This vintage three-piece goal stick - a prize in it's own right for antique stick collectors - has been team-signed by the 1941-42 Stanley Cup finalist Detroit Red Wings. Full-size, with silver foil stamps on each side of the shaft from Detroit's Tool Shop Sports, 16 have signed one side of the paddle/blade in pencil, including Mowers, Stewart, M. Bruneteau, Whitelaw, Giesebrecht, Howe, Abel (2), Jones, Liscombe, McReavy, Motter, Wares, Jennings, Grosso and Jimmy Orlando. The signatures display well with the majority bold and easily readable, with "1940 Stanley Cup Champs" erroneously written to the blade, apparently by Sid Abel (the Red Wings won Cups in 1937 and 1943 during the era).
