Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Founded by members of the Fire Department of New York including Chief of Special Operations Ray Downey - who served for four decades and lost his life in the Sept, 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the F.D.N.Y. hockey team presented HOF star Derek Sanderson with this City of New York Fire Department Sept 11, 2001 commemorative axe, on Sept 16, 2002. Accompanying the axe and hailing from the event that it was presented, we have a Sanderson Rangers jersey signed by actor Denis Leary. The axe is full size (35” in length), with gold metal axe head with F.D.N.Y. raised logo and a plaque affixed to the handle listing the particulars including “Derek Sanderson”, “F.D.N.Y. Hockey Team” and “9/16/02”. The limited-edition number of “110/1500” is also engraved. The jersey has Pro Player labeling with “56” sizing, with a tackle twill team crest and numbers, with Sanderson signing the reverse “6” in white, with the signature blending into the background material somewhat. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Mr Sanderson will accompany.
There is some staining to the jersey to the front of the jersey and a sleeve, with just light and minor wear to the axe including a few spots visible as well as scratches to the axe head.
