Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
Backed by a powerful offense that included defenceman Bobby Orr, and leading the NHL in goals scored, the Boston Bruins concluded the 1969-70 NHL season in 2nd place in the East, and after dispatching of the New York Rangers and Chicago Black Hawks, won the Stanley Cup on Orr’s famous Game 4 overtime goal assisted by Derek Sanderson. This stick was used by Sanderson during the 1970 playoffs and/or finals, and it has been multi-signed by Bruins players. A Sher-Wood Pattern Pro model with “16 Sanderson” over the shaft, Franklin stamps appear over each side, with the original black tape over the blade and white – now darkened - on the handle and knob. 10 have signed one side of the shaft in ballpoint including Sanderson (twice), along with McKenzie, Stanfield, Esposito, Lorentz, Carleton, Awrey, Smith, Adams (spare goaltender) and one other. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Mr Sanderson will accompany.
We should note that the stick has been dated to the 1969-70 NHL season by those signing, and according to photographic evidence, Sanderson started using this model of stick during the 1969-70 semifinals, so it was used during the playoffs including possibly the finals. The stick shows great game-use with heavy wear to the blade including numerous puck marks, with additional wear including a pair of small holes from previously being mounted over the shaft. There is also a bit of red paint transfer visible over the upper shaft.
