Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
The 92nd edition of the Fall Classic and the first championship in The Big Apple in almost two decades, the New York Yankees became just the third team to win a World Series after losing Games 1 and 2 at their home stadium. The 1996 World Series is also notable as superstar Derek Jeter’s first, with the fourteen-time All-Star claiming five titles with the Yankees including three-consecutive championships from 1998 to 2000, with World Series MVP selection in 2000. This stunning Derek Jeter New York Yankees 1996 World Series Championship 14K gold and diamond ring is size 10 ½ with an approx weight of 46 grams. Featuring a raised Yankees logo set within a blue stone with inset diamonds including a large centralized half carat specimen, “World Champions” and “1996” encompasses in raised and sloping letters/numerals. The right shank has “Courage” and “Heart” within banners, with “Jeter” in raised letters above and a World Series trophy below, while the left shank features a Yankees logo with “Tradition” below, and Yankee Stadium above. The inner band is stamped "Balfour 14K". We should note that to the best of our knowledge, there has never been a Jeter 1996 World Series 14K gold ring with large inset diamond ever offered, with all of the known 1996 Jeter sample rings 10K gold with zirconias. This example, produced sometime shortly after 1996, is almost identical to those presented to the players, with the small difference being the style of the engraved "Balfour 14K". We should further note that only starting players received rings with a large mounted diamond, with the staff rings void of the large stone. Remaining in absolutely gorgeous condition with just the lightest amount of wear visible, the ring displays fabulously. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reverse.
