Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Short-lived, producing only a trio of seasons of gridiron action, the USFL operated from 1983 to 1985 and was the brainchild of New Orleans businessman David Dixon, with a football league envisioned that would fill the summer months during the absence of the NFL. The third and final USFL season in 1985 would witness the Birmingham Stallions capturing the Eastern Conference with a record of 13-5, with cornerback Dennis Woodberry presented this fabulous championship 10K gold ring. Size 11 with an approx weight of 34 grams, a raised football encrusted with zirconias sits over a bright burgundy stone on the face, encompassed by “Eastern Champions” in raised, sloping letters. The right shank has a gold Stallions logo with “1985” above and “USFL” below, while the left features a gold Stallions helmet with “Woodbury” above. The inner band is stamped “10K Jostens".
Exhibiting wear from use, there are scratches over the outer band, with a few small dings visible along edges. There is also some minor additional wear to the inner band and over the shanks.
