Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Registering an impressive 437 career wins, Jacques Plante was instrumental in the development of the modern goaltending position, with his legendary forays from the crease to handle the puck now commonplace among keepers. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have photo signed by the Habs superstar and 1978 Hall of Fame inductee. A desirable period David Bier image at 8” x 10”, the glossy print picture’s Plante in game-action with the Rangers in 1963-64, making a save against the Canadiens’ Ralph Backstrom. Plante has added a beautiful blue ballpoint signature that displays wonderfully. Passing away from stomach cancer at just 57 years-of-age in 1986, this is one of the only signed game-action photos of Plante we have handled.
With no issues for the signature other than mentioning for the strictest accuracy that the beginning of “Plante” is just a bit light, the photo itself shows a number of wrinkles and surface indentations, with little to no toning. A David Bier stamp appears over the reverse, along with typed biographical information regarding Plante including that the photo originates from Hal Atkins of the Montreal Star.
