Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The NHL’s all-time leading scorer upon his retirement in 1929, Cyril Joseph “Cy” Denneny enjoyed a dozen seasons with the famous Ottawa Senators, raising Lord Stanley’s hardware four times during his tenure in the nation’s capital. The Farran’s Point native would spend a final season with the Stanley Cup-champion Boston Bruins in 1928-29, serving as playing-coach. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a photo signed by the 1959 HOF inductee. Postcard size at approx 3 ½” x 5 ½”, Denneny is shown in his Senators uniform, with the dark ink signature placed along the base, with “Yours Truly” and “Ottawa Senators” added. Passing away at age 78 in 1970, we should note that THIS IS THE FIRST CY DENNENY SIGNED PHOTO WE HAVE EVER SEEN/OFFERED.
Sporting a few creases and surface lines, the Velox print remains in very good condition, with toning and paper residue over the reverse, with the signature displaying nicely.
