Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Hailing from a notable hockey family, Charlie Conacher spent the majority of his Hall of Fame career with his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs, serving as the right wing of the fabled “Kid Line”. Leading the NHL twice in goals, a trio of NHL First All-Star Team selections would be earned, along with a Stanley Cup championship, in 1932. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a vintage photo signed by the 1961 HOF inductee. At 6 ½” x 8 ½” and picturing Conacher in a full on-ice pose in his Leafs uniform, a large and bold blue ink signature has been placed over the middle left along with a personalization, with the autograph gorgeous. Passing from throat cancer at just 58 during his nation’s centennial, we should note that THIS IS ONE OF JUST A FEW CHARLIE CONACHER SIGNED PHOTOS WE HAVE EVER SEEN/OFFERED.
As mentioned, the signature displays brilliantly, with just a few lighter areas along the “C” of “Charlie” from handling. The glossy print is slightly warped and exhibits a few surface lines and creases, along with some toning. There are also typed and handwritten notations over the reverse including “Received Autogd Aug 30 – 44 on request”, with a stamp from noted photographer Turofsky.
