Argos fans will forever remember the great 1991 Grey Cup championship season that saw Wayne Gretzky, John Candy and Bruce McNall launch their brief tenure as co-owners with a CFL title. All-Star linebacker Darryl Ford received this dazzling and spectacular diamond and 10-karat gold ring, which weighs approximately 49 grams, to commemorate his and the Argos’ 36-21 win over the Calgary Stampeders in the 79th Grey Cup, the first ever held in Winnipeg. A dozen real diamonds are set in the raised gold “A” in the middle of a blue stone on the tableau, with “1991 Grey Cup Champions The Pride The Glory” spelled out around the bezel. This amazing 1991 Argonauts Grey Cup ring comes with an LOA and a copy of a 1997 pawn shop receipt signed by Darryl Ford's wife Lynn Masset.
"Jostens 10K" and "10-0 at home" are stamped inside the substantial size 15 band. “Ford” is spelled out in raised gold across the top of the left shank, which has an Argos helmet and Ford’s number “21” below it and “Fifteen-Five” spelled out in a v-shaped banner at the bottom. The right shank has “Toronto 36 Calgary 21” surrounding an image of the Grey Cup with the CFL logo at the bottom along with “79th Grey Cup” on a v-shaped banner.
The ring is very nicely preserved overall with obvious signs of proud wear. There is a nick on the left edge of the right shank and a few smaller ones on the right edge of the same shank. The left shank has a nick on the right edge to the right of the “D” in “Ford”. There are various surface scratches while the ring retains sharp details throughout.
Ford was named a 1991 CFL All-Star and played 18 games with the Argos that season, including the Grey Cup. Raghib “Rocket” Ismail dodged snowballs as he sealed his Grey Cup MVP honors with an electrifying 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
