Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

A Stanley Cup winner in consecutive seasons with two different clubs in both 1995 and 1996, Claude Lemieux is one of only 11 players in Stanley Cup history to win the Cup with three or more different teams. The Buckingham native is also ninth on the all-time list for playoff goals with 80. Hailing from the inaugural Colorado Avalanche campaign in 1995-96 that also served as the club’s first Stanley Cup championship season, we have an Avalanche jersey that was worn by Lemieux in the 1996 Stanley Cup playoffs (excluding the finals). Starter Center Ice labeling along with a “56-G” size swatch sit along the collar, with embroidered Starter and NHL logos over the reverse bottom hem. Featuring a large and partially embroidered Avs team crest with attractive silver thread detailing, the knit mesh V-neck has been accented with textured tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching alternate crests over each shoulder. Obtained directly from Claude Lemieux, his signed LOA will accompany.
It should be noted that the offered jersey sports the 1996 Stanley Cup championship patch over the right breast, with these added to jerseys as the team advanced to the finals. The patches were also added to all jerseys after the finals by the Colorado staff, including our example. A number of puck and stick marks are visible beneath the team crest and over the right sleeve, with faint board burns present over the upper left sleeve. Lemieux would contribute an impressive 12 points during the 19 playoff games Colorado needed to win the 1996 Stanley Cup.
