Logging over 3000 career penalty minutes and notorious for the productive use of his fists, Chris Nilan was selected by the Habs in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft, with almost a decade spent in a Montreal sweater which included being crowned a Stanley Cup champion in 1986. We have a photo-matched Canadiens jersey worn by the noteworthy tough guy in 1987-88, his final season in Quebec before moving on to Broadway and the New York Rangers. With no labeling remaining along the collar and an embroidered CCM crest over the reverse hem, the road jersey measures-out to approx a size 54. Styled with the most famous team crest in hockey, “30” appears over the sleeves and verso in white-over-blue tackle twill, with “Nilan” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. The dual-clasp fight strap remains intact, with a pair of loop-style straps added on either side.
A few marks are visible beneath the team crest, with a bit of blue paint transfer beneath the left number and a thin burn streak near the right shoulder. Two team repairs are also present, one over the lower left seam, the other, near the left elbow. A dressing room picture from 1987-88 has been used for the photo-match, with the jersey matched to the perfect number placement on the reverse, to the loose threading on the lower right corner of the "3", the extra threading on the right edge of the nameplate, and finally, to the loose thread in the second "C" on the embroidered CCM crest, as well as the partially missing right part of the "M".
