Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
A veteran of 11 All-Star contests, superstar Chris Chelios took part in every showcase of the best NHL talent between 1990 and 1998, excluding just 1995. The 1996 affair allowed two iconic players to honour each other, when Chelios traded jerseys with fellow HOF defenceman Paul Coffey, with each adding dedicated signatures. We have the Chelios example that was gifted to Coffey, and it served as one of five jerseys worn for either the official photo shoot, pre-game warm-up or in one of the three periods. A size 54 fly tag sits affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests over the reverse bottom hem. Featuring a partially embroidered twill “Eastern” team crest, the sweater has been accented with dual-colour tackle twill numbers with the name on verso sewn directly onto the garment. The important 1996 NHL All-Star Game patch rests over the right shoulder, while a Black Hawks team crest resides over the left. A signed LOA will accompany from Paul Coffey.
With just a few faint marks over each sleeve, the jersey remains in wonderful condition. As mentioned, Coffey and Chelios exchanged sweaters, with a Coffey All-Star jersey from the same year recently selling in the Chris Chelios collection offered by another auction house, with a dedicated signature from Paul to Chris. Chelios has signed the reverse of our jersey within the top of the “7”, adding “To Paul, Great Playing With You”.
