Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Possessing the most feared shot in the latter half of the NHL’s Original Six era, Bobby Hull routinely launched pucks at speeds of over 100MPH at opposing goaltenders, more often than not finding the back of the net at the same time. Up for grabs here, and originally a fixture at the famed “Madhouse on Madison”, is this section of plexiglass signed by and attributed to have been broken by “The Golden Jet” himself.
As told by our consignor, his family had a friend who was a stationary engineer at Chicago Stadium during the 1960s and he had to replace this piece of glass said to have been cracked by Hull after it happened. It was then that the engineer gave the piece of glass to our consignor's family.
Measuring 25” x 40 ½”, the slab remains in good condition other than the crack that is said to be from Hull’s shot at the top and has spidered down about 7" and displays various marks, scratches and scuffs that one would expect to see on plexiglass used in any kind of hockey arena. The piece has been signed not once but twice by Hull, with the first autograph, done in blue marker ink and heavily faded having been inscribed with “The Old Chicago Stadium 1957-72” underneath while the second autograph, penned above the first one in black marker and in much better and more legible condition, includes inscriptions reading “The Golden Jet – HOF 1983 – The Chicago Stadium 1958-72”. A cool piece with a cool story, please note that due to the size and weight of the item, special shipping arrangements may be required.
