Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

Despite an abysmal record with only 14 wins, the Chicago Black Hawks managed to qualify for the playoffs in 1937-38, and after defeating Montreal and the New York Americans, met the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup final. The series would go only four games (best out of five), and with an injured Mike Karakas, the Black Hawks had to borrow goaltenders Alfie Moore (Game 1) and Paul Goodman (Game 2). This would be just the second Stanley Cup championship in Black Hawks franchise history. Originally purchased directly from a Charles and Bill Hay family estate sale, we have a mini stick signed by the 1937-38 Stanley Cup champion Black Hawks. At 15 1/2" in total length, the varnished one-piece stick with small Army/Navy decal sports 17 dark ink autographs all arranged in a vertical row on one side of the stick, with "World Champions April-12-1938" on the reverse (the date of the final Stanley Cup match). The signers include Palangio, Levinsky, Jenkins, Johnson, MacKenzie, Seibert (HOF), Thompson, March (twice), Moore, Wiebe, Voss, Shill, Trudel, Romnes, Gottselig and Karakas, with the majority bleeding into the wood somewhat. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
