Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Always a favourite with collectors due to their large size and displayable graphics, vintage hockey calendars have the added convenience of being dated, unlike many other hockey memorabilia items. We have a collection of 5 calendars spanning from 1918 to 1984 that all feature hockey graphics, along with a single calendar sheet for January of 1955 issued by Christy Walsh. Highlighted by a desirable calendar issued by the Star-Journal for 1937 and featuring the famous Dionne quintuplets, there’s also an antique example for 1918 with full calendar pad issued by the Fidelity Phenix Fire Insurance Co, a 1933 calendar issued by the De Laval Separator Co, a 1952 calendar also issued by Christy Walsh and a Norman Rockwell calendar for 1984 featuring a hockey painting for January.
The Dionne calendar is 8” x 11” with an intact monthly pad and just very light wear, while the 1918 example (8 ¼” x 10”) is also complete, with some edge and corner wear, with some additional light wear to the pad and writing over the reverse. Next, the Christy Walsh calendar (8 ½” x 15”) and single calendar page (9” x 17”) both show toning along with wear at the top border of the individual calendar page, with a few folds and bends to corners along the bottom pages of the full Walsh calendar. The De Laval calendar is a fold-open booklet (9” x 15” opened), complete, with moderate wear and staining, with heavier wear to the spine. Finally, the Rockwell calendar shows heavy toning and light staining, with some creasing and edge wear, with the cover detached. As an added bonus, a Dionne picture album (8 ½” x 9 ¾”) from 1936 is included, and it remains in very good condition.
