Cale Makar’s game-used rookie season stick is the model the Avalanche defenseman used during the outset of his 2019-20 Calder Trophy season as well as the 2018-19 Stanley Cup playoffs. Makar garnered 116 first-place votes to take rookie of the year honors ahead of runner-up Quinn Hughes of Vancouver in an outstanding crop of rookie defensemen. Makar had six points in 10 games when he made his NHL debut in the 2019 playoffs using this model of Bauer Nexus stick. He continued to use this model in the fall through late October of 2019 to launch his official rookie season, when he went on to score 12 goals and 38 assists for 50 points in 57 games. His game-used rookie season stick has “Makar” factory graphics on the shaft below his well-worn tape job on the knob, which has his No. “8” handwritten in black marker at the bottom. An Avalanche “Game-Used Equipment” sticker with team logo is affixed to the front of the lower shaft above the heel. Game use shows in black marks on Makar’s original white tape job on the blade, which has worn through a bit on the bottom edge towards the toe and at the very end before the heel.
