Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
In just his second season as a Montreal Canadien when he appeared on coveted cards like this one was Georges Vezina, the legendary goaltender who never missed a regular season or playoff game from the time he joined the Habs until he became ill during a contest in 1925, a 15-year run that totaled 325 games! Vezina recorded the first shutout in NHL history and was the first netminder to be awarded an assist. He backstopped the Canadiens to Stanley Cup triumphs in 1915-16 and 1923-24. Among the most sought rookie cards in the hobby is the Vezina RC, with the example offered here examined by PSA, with “VG 3” appearing on the company’s most recent holder. The naked eye spots corner wear and obvious less-than-perfect centering, but no apparent creases. Stirring to hold and behold while contemplating the life and career of a hockey icon whose name lives on with the Vezina Trophy.
