With his portrait gracing the Canadian five-dollar bill for almost half a century, Sir Henri Charles Wilfrid Laurier entered office in 1896 as Canada’s 7th Prime Minister, and served for 15 years, until 1911. Remembered for his vision of individual liberty, he also sought to establish Canada as an autonomous country within the British Empire. Originating through the family of House of Commons MP John Howard Sinclair (1848-1924), we offer an exceptional oversized signed portrait photo of Sir Wilfrid Laurier. At approx 21” x 27” and mounted to board, the image pictures a dapper and well-groomed Laurier in a relaxed studio pose, with book in hand. Signed over the bottom right, the large black ink signature is somewhat camouflaged against the dark background, with just a few areas of the signature a bit light, most likely due to the writing instrument as no fading has occurred. Sinclair served as MP during the 1900s/1910s. The photo has remained in the Sinclair family since it was gifted to John Howard.
The photo displays beautifully, with just a bit of edge and corner wear, with what appears to be a few finger prints visible near the top section.
