The longest-serving prime minister in Canadian history, William Lyon Mackenzie King entered office as the 10th Prime Minister of Canada in 1921, serving from 1921–1926, 1926–1930 and 1935–1948. We have a signed and framed photo of the Kitchener native and Liberal, with the photo taken by noted lensman Yousuf Karsh, with King dedicating the signature to John G. McConnell, president and publisher of the Montreal Star. At 6 ¼” x 8”, the black and white image depicts King with stern countenance, with the photographer Karsh signing in pencil at the bottom left corner of the image, with King scripting his attractive black ink signature and dedication beneath, adding “Ottawa 1947”. Framed to full dimensions of approx 9 ½” x 12”, the photo displays brilliantly, with no issues for the dark signature.
We should note some wear to the frame itself, including over the reverse where clear tape has been used to keep the paper backing affixed. King would pass in 1950 at the age of 75.
