Christened the California Seals and renamed for their Oakland locale partway through their first season in 1967-68, the California Golden Seals served as an inaugural NHL expansion franchise, and with little success at the gate in the Golden State, the club relocated to become the Cleveland Barons, in 1976-77. This lot contains a great group of Seals team-issued photos, postcards and team cards ranging from the inaugural season of 1967-68, to the final season before relocating of 1975-76, with approx 158 present and accounted for, which includes 49 signed. The breakdown by year for the collection is as follows; 1967-68 - 13 team-issued photos with 1 signed including Hicke, Smith, Baun, Watson (signed) and others, 1968-69 – 3 JD McCarthy postcards signed with Hicke, Jarrett and Ingarfield, 1969-70 – 19 blank-backed postcards with 8 signed including Hodge, Marshall, Smith (signed) and others, 1970-71 – 30 blank-backed postcards with 9 signed including Howell (2 with one signed – low grade), 1971-72 – 13 team cards including 8 signed , 1972-73 – 9 team cards including 8 signed, 1973-74 – 10 team cards, 1974-75 – 17 team cards including 8 signed, 1974-76 – 20 blank-backed postcards, 1975-76 – 4 team cards with each signed and 1975-76 – 20 photo cards. The majority of the postcards in the collection display beautifully with light to moderate handling wear, with the odd example sporting corner dings, creases or surface wear.
